The experienced and dedicated staff at Prentice House focus on developing personal relationships and bonds with each resident. Through these relationships, residents are able to develop a higher level of insight and understanding into the sustainable changes they are making to their lives. Staff to resident ratios are maintained at a minimum of 1:4 providing individualized attention, supervision, and instruction. Our administrative staff provide direct and involved daily care to each resident. This allows for informed and productive communication with families and placing agencies, which further augments the comprehensive care and programming received.

While at Prentice House, residents live in a highly structured family environment that promotes healthy choices, problem solving, and accountability. Residents are responsible for maintaining personal care, household chores, and meal preparation. Through this routine, residents are continuously building upon their independent living skills. Daily scheduling also includes school, therapy appointments, groups, and recreational activities. Residents are taught time management and goal setting skills that allow them to apply this structure to "real world" situations.

Prentice House has partnered with Sioux River Stables in Washburn, Wisconsin to provide a unique experience for its residents.  Three, 12 week classes give select residents the opportunity to rehabilitate a "rescue" horse.  Once the horse has been rehabilitated, a new home is located for the animal.  This alternative to traditional therapies enhances self confidence, respect, responsibility, social skills, communication, trust, problem solving, self expression, and decision making.  Residents are completely involved in the search and selection of the new family for the horse, giving them an incredible sense of pride and accomplishment. After discharge, residents, families, and placing agencies will have regular contact with Prentice House staff. This is done to ensure a successful transition back to their home communities, families, and less restrictive environments. These contacts are designed to provide support, guidance, and extra resources to sustain the development and changes that have occurred during the placement. The relationships and bonds formed between staff and residents often last long beyond the completion of the aftercare program.
